Beidi Festival activities held in Foshan’s Xiqiao Town

The Jiancun Village Beidi Festival, a traditional folk custom in Xiqiao Town, Nanhai District, Foshan City, is annually celebrated on the third day of the third lunar month.  

On March 31, the Beidi Festival was held in the Jiancun Village. A series of exciting performances took place, and more than 10,000 people participated.

Beidi is a deity in Chinese folk religion. The Beidi Festival, also known as the Sanyuesan Festival, is held on the date believed to be the birthday of the Beidi.

In the Jiancun Village, the Beidi Temple was initially constructed in 1277. In 2012, the festival was inscribed on Nanhai District’s fourth batch of Intangible Cultural Heritage listings. Also this year, Jiancun earned recognition as a Guangdong Provincial Historical and Cultural Village.

This year’s celebrations featured many exciting performances, including a folk custom parade, Cantonese opera performances, and aromatic sachet crafting workshops.

This year, a new “Exploring Jiancun Village Through Beidi Festival” tour route was launched. It features eight scenic spots highlighting the ancient village’s revitalized charm, two traditional craft workshop experience sites, internet-famous renovated houses, and a new private kitchen transformed from traditional buildings.
